Backyard Summertime Ballet

Sitting in the shade
Of my backyard patio.
The dragonflies dance
In the summer's heat.
Different colors;
Yellow ones, green ones,
Gold and blue and
An odd red one.
Jinking and janking
Up and down and sideways,
Almost in all directions.
Then the butterflies jump in.
Wings of yellow and black
And orange black monarchs
Heading to or from Mexico,
Just fluttering in the hot air.
A hummingbird or two
Enter with bright red
Or earthy green throats,
Buzzing about the feeder.
A host of backyard birds
Join in a backyard summertime ballet,
Naturally choreographed
