Gulf of Mexico Water

Muddy waters from the Mississipi delta
Color the bay a dingy greenish brown
Because we're west of the river and
The current carries the silt and the
Mud our way into the bay. It's the way
Our waters look every day.

Travel east of the delta and
The river and see a metamorphasis.
Watch the Gulf waters become a
Clean emerald green and travel
To the Keys and the Caribbean to see
The seafloor beneath the sapphire waves.

For just one week out of the year,
While pampered and indulged
Out on a cruise, we saw the same Gulf water
In a different view and the memory
Will last a lifetime. I still see the clear
Clean waters in my minds eye.
