Professional Description

Play some chess, read my books, maybe even
Workout in the gym if I'm motivated to do so.
Write some poetry, go out for a smoke, or stargaze
If the night is clear enough. Tease the girls and play
Around all on the taxpayers dollar as I rack up
Vacation and holiday and sicktime hours and
Even get paid for it on top of it all.
Pass some pills, hang an IV, actually do some
Work; then I'll eat my free breakfast in the
Officers dining room. Free food, free parking,
Fifteen minutes from the house, and no families
Are the true reasons why I'm here.
It isn't the paycheck or the people or
The job or any other one thing.
For just these little bits I'll be a little selfish
And less than professionally ambitious
And just show up to work here.
At least I'll make it look like work.
One fine day I'll move on and find
The courage to find a real job.
They may even name the ODR
After me when I'm gone.
